Is counselling for me?

If you are reading this I imagine that you have tried hard to resolve the issues in your life in the best ways you know. Maybe you followed some advice from friends, family or self-help books but nothing has seemed to work.

Maybe you feel anxious and panicked; anger is jeopardizing your future; grief feels overwhelming; life seems meaningless; stress at work is really getting to you; your relationship is falling apart; you are an expat struggling with feelings of loneliness or you feel depressed and in a low mood.

Maybe something else entirely which is causing you suffering and you want to do something about it.

Now is the time to take a step further towards your wellbeing and the life you have always wanted to create for yourself by making a no-commitment appointment to see how counselling can help you.

I understand it can be a bit scary to take that first step and yet if you are committed to change and want to learn how to:

  • Relate to negative emotions and  thoughts in a way which decreases their influence over your actions
  • Engage in helpful behaviours which move you towards what is important to you
  • Learn new ways to deal with stress, anxiety and depression that are achievable and sustainable
  • Improve the quality of your relationships
  • Find out more about who you truly are, what is meaningful to you and where your potential still lies

I offer short-term counselling (6 to 12 sessions) as well as longer-term psychotherapy usually once a week depending on your needs, progress and resources. Some people may find some relief from just a couple of counselling sessions but for any deeper issues, regular counselling is advised.

What happens in a session?

Due to my wide-ranging training I adapt the counselling style to your unique circumstances, personality and preferences, I don't believe in a "one size fits all" approach.

Counselling is a talking therapy but other activities such as guided visualisation, drawing and writing can enhance this process when and if appropriate.

I also offer EMDR therapy: a powerful way to resolve present issues with roots in difficult memories or recent traumatic events.
